Looking back, she has always wanted to do art more than any other subjects and score well in it.

You can say art is the only lesson that she looks forward to (with Chinese being the last on her list). Her greatest story telling doodles can be found in her Sec1 - 4 chinese textbooks; they are splashed all over the places. But like a young mind as hers, she chose to believe in the infamous “art has no future” theory. And she got robbed of a chance to do art in Secondary when her appeal to the princiPAL failed. Soon after that, she missed the boat to Nafa because of moo-lah problem.

So fast forward to Junior College days: she was lucky enough to get into a JC’c AEP (Art Elective Program). The first 3 months of art-learning was great! She for once, did some art work under GOOD teachers (notice how hard it is to land yourself a good teacher) and exposed herself to art history where artists’ names are unpronouncable. Sadly, it was a short lived art-learning journey. She found herself switched to the Geography class after 3 months later, falling for the same theory she had once fallen for.

Still in Geography now that she is in Uni, she wonders where’s the great bright future that she believed to have existed.

None the less, she left behind her proud piece of work during her short stint in JC art classes. Below is Frog in the Drain, a 50 by 50(cm) arcylic on canvas painting. She wouldn’t have been able to produce this without her teacher IC, Mr Lak.

Panda

Pig & So look out for coming (not very sure when) posts of more earrings and a "accessories making for dummies" guide authored by WeDoodle, and of course Pig's doodles.

Last reason to smile?
Can't stop looking at it (I'm soooo happpppyyyyyy!)

Panda

SORRY!

It's not that the novelty of having a website has worn off, just that we aren't ready to present our maiden project yet! Alright i've never done a garment before (though I drew alot) but I was always rather sure and confident that it won't be a mean feat to produce one. What used to be "I think I can do that" and then I will start visualizing it in my head where to cut and piece and sew etc, today's gut feeling was...off.

I know exactly what's wrong. I've been thinking thinking thinking and not doing, that's why. Sometimes I blame time (or the lack of it) for my procrastination. But really, I just don't find any motivation to dig out the manual sewing machine at home and start learning it on top of my everyday forced learning in school. Besides, I was told since young that buying is wiser choice to fussing over threads and needles just to make a dress.

Well, here's a confession. I was interested in designing and of couse, making costumes for my hall, not once but twice. No harm stating it here, cos this blog is supposed to be Pig's and moi "journey of doodling". I was upset that I missed the chance but yet again, no one in their right frame of mind will ask if you keep mum. And being the usual me having self doubts at times, I shall leave my ambition to future and safer use.

Panda

Our Project *smirk*

Here's the <strike>first</strike> latest project by us! Like, HarloOw? That's SO misleading(And embarrassing might I add, that we can't differentiate between fiction and non-fiction--the world regards it as fiction but we don't!)! I Almost thought it was a true story (how'd I know since the author and narrator of the book is of the same name?) until I went online to search about it.

The suggestions implemented in the story wasn't all that great, cos it just isn't that easy to let things go. At least, that's how it is coming from me, a Singaporean.

But still, the questions and thinking process leading me on in the book is pretty good. And the author succeeded, I was pretty inspired by the book. (I kinda disagree with his answer to the second question. I don't fear death because I have alot of things undone and am afraid that time will run out. I fear death for other reasons. And when I read what he wrote, my first thought was actually "Sweeping statement!!") Set me thinking though, and I'm not sure about my own answers for the questions too.

Anyhow, I'll post the questions here:

Why are you here?

Do you fear death?

Are you fulfilled?

Pig

Random doodles by the talented oink*

I know they are randomly nice. Seems to me I'm going the way of stereotyped Singaporeans. Those foreigners interviewed always say something about us not knowing how to take time off to enjoy life. I, however, am always amazed by how they Can take time off however busy for some road trips, holidays, biking with kids etc. How is it they can do it and yet it seems like an impossible task <strike>to me</strike>?

Pig

Just a little update

Juggling the World Cup and work is no mean feat, so it's no wonder I haven't been here with more posts! What with another big project I had (Panda's 21st present & celebration!!!)--I was spending almost an entire month of June with barely few hours of sleep everyday. I'm becoming a panda myself :( But it's all worth it when you see the shock on a pleasantly surprised Panda's face

Anyway, as the title suggests, just a little thing to fill up the spaces. I did this on request of my manager. She was setting up a new committee and needed recruit members. Gave me the positions to be filled and told me to find a interesting way of selling such a boring committee. Came up with this. Admittedly, the clipart picture was typical boring, but oh well, it just had to do cos I couldn't possible doodle for a company email, could I? Those funny position-names were found when I was searching around on the World Wide Web. There was a website with really such positions!

At least, my first attempt at a poster! I still think the clipart was the most un-pro thing.

Pig

Neither here nor there or anywhere

Have you ever felt like this?

I feel lost lately. Or rather, I've been feeling lost for a long time but I'm really talking about it now. So what happened to most of the time? I treat it like it's perhaps after all, nothing. Or I will pen it down only to delete everything I wrote at the end of the day.

It’s actually nothing much, please don’t be alarm to read this and wonder if I’m ok (laughs). Sometimes I just don’t know what I am capable of. I don’t know what “type” of person I am. If only it is as easy as classifying blood types into “A” “B” etc. At times I wish I am brainy, that I can speak and write well, have great interest in classic books like those by Jane Austen or whoever. At times I wish I am the happy go lucky type, with little concern for everything – image, eye-stares, weather, time…and yak and yak and stay happy and yep, happy with everyday. I consider too many things and I never do anything. I yearn for betterment in myself but I do nothing about it, or maybe I did something little about it.

I really admire people who have goals, who know about things, and in its opposite, people who are ignorantly contended in their little bubbles. Entrepreneurs whom we failed by their un-sellable products or tactics have more courage and drive than I do. Friends who do not busy themselves with hall activities like mad bees are just as fulfilled by reading and knowing more. He who knows nothing much finds joy everyday with meals and movies.

I just can’t do it.

I can’t read the papers when they reported Japan won the cruel bid to commercially hunt whales and feel nothing. But I did nothing. I can’t go out to play knowing my mum is cooped at home doing housework. I can’t spend the money that I am not earning. I can’t be doing nothing in hall but yet I feel I do not know anyone there. I am not happy with movies and meals. I don’t know what I want and I rather be alone at times.

By the way, I think the airport is a very peaceful place.

Friendship: Also about honouring the differences

Panda always never had an interest in anime and manga. Think "oh." or "Eee". Pig has *some interest in manga, but not really much of anime.

The first comic Pig ever got interested in was CCS by clamp. Nevermind for those who don't know what's that, but she felt that the drawing was Niceeeeee. (though not perfect--NOT that she feels she can do even better than them). She used to draw some manga kinda drawings without referring to any comic books (she doesn't like to copy), but erm, let's just put it, she isn't really skilled. Found out that it's really quite difficult to make it look as nice as what's in her head. Whatever she drew somehow lacked something. But anyhow, her interest in Manga/comics was shortlived because what she's really interested in is the artwork Much more than the storylines (most are <strike>ridiculous</strike> over-exaggerated fighting/fantasy stories that aren't exactly her cup of tea). Oh and did I mention? She doesn't really like to read Chinese. But anyhow, Pig ended up reading a manga recently: Nana. AND, the drawing sucked. It took her 3 times of intro from a friend before she finally decided to read it. AND, really fell for the book.

I can practically imagine Panda going "eek. Don't like."

But the story, although containing explicit things that the 2 lead girls do which I don't exactly approve of, is very good. It's about 2 girls of same age, with similar names (which sound exactly the same in Jap: Nana). One is a funky, smoking girl who is independent and relatively more quiet and doesn't say out much but cares and is soft-hearted despite the punk image. Still funny, but more sane, and less privileged. The other Nana is a noisy, likes-to-throw-tantrums, dependent and <strike>a little</strike> over-imaginative girl. Funny, and crazy, she doesn't know what she wants in life and likes to drag her friends to accompany her--i.e. doesn't like to be alone when going somewhere. Blah blah blah, I didn't list out everything about them. It's too long to elaborate here, but the main story line is the two Nanas, and how they may be very different, but still became friends. The story is written from the 2nd Nana's point of view, and every "chapter" seems to start with things like "Hey Nana(the funky one), remember when we first met? I always..." and the narration is as though Nana is dead, and the funny one is reminiscing the good old days. And there are little truths in the story.

I like the story lots, and seeing too much of manga has put the art back in my head. But I didn't do those "wow" kinds, just the silly Q-version.

The punk Nana reminds me of all my friends. Each of my friends have certain traits that belong to her. Including Panda. And me? I see some of my traits in the crazy childish Nana.

Panda and I are not totally opposites, but we have our differences. Panda dares to experiment(though not as much as others) but relative to me. Panda likes certain things, colours, that Pig doesn't. Panda is a more carefree girl and pig cares too much about what people may think. And pig is SUPER DUPER lazy. Art, in many aspects, not just doodling, is a HUGE bonding. Photography, fashion, paint, design, such are things we both appreciate. Because Pig is actually quite empty inside--she doesn't like many things and art is one of the only few thing she likes. Haha but we do have similar tastes in food. :P

Anyhow, I was inspired to do a little something, and even though Panda isn't the only one of all my friends who has "Punk Nana traits" that are so unlike me, she's the one that clicks with me the exact way the two different personalities Nanas click. Not so much because of the similarities, but honouring of the differences (haha more of Panda's side though).

To us.

The hands and paper was drawn on the laptop's Paint (I was drawing my own hands); took a picture of a doodling I did on paper and merged the two. There's something nice about merging of two different means (i.e. computer and paper).

Presenting, the star of today....MOOLAH

panda is unhappy, and pig too is struggling because she stoopidly screwed up and is delayed getting moolah.
